Since my degree in 1999 I've enjoyed the challenge of transforming familiar objects into other things, giving them a new function and sometimes even a new life. However, after the initial idea, it can take me a long time to develop and resolve them into final products.
The main reason for deciding to make something every day was to be more productive and generate new ideas. Initially, it was only going to be a personal project and I never intended to share the results. As I got into the project, I started to share the results on Facebook and received supportive feedback, which led to the blog at everydayobject.wordpress.com. It started conversations and spread around the internet, giving me the impetus to carry on but it also added more pressure to what I was creating…
Quality is normally better than quantity but in this case it has served me well. Often, I will have an idea but then spot problems with it and not have the confidence to see it through. Setting myself this challenge meant I had to stop making excuses and just do it, and that's when exciting discoveries and opportunities can arise.
