Pixel art on a J cloth, stitched into a working clock. It came out of Everyday Objects no. 17 and I still run it — a lovely way of decorating a cheap readymade.
Readymades and found materials, taken apart and made into something else. Works with groups who don’t think of themselves as makers — often the point is the room, not the object.
Longer stretches where the work happens in public — rope, beach balls, whatever the building suggests. Visitors become collaborators rather than spectators.
A group supported by the Arc Centre, growing out of my exhibition there. They repaired bikes; I helped them turn the spare parts into sculptures and lights. The results were later exhibited at Stockport Art Gallery.
A programme bringing together neurodivergent adults to explore making as a way of finding your feet and finding each other. Everyone personalised their pieces, and together we built a Cabinet of Curiosities for the New Mills Festival trail.
A group commission placing artists in nursery and primary settings across Scunthorpe. I was based in a preschool, bringing in ordinary, tactile objects and watching which combinations drew the children in — then building pieces from what I saw and testing them back in the room.
Commissioned by two arts organisations to write up my J cloth pixel art as instructions other people could follow. It grew out of Everyday Objects no. 17, Not Sew, and turned into the clock workshop I still run.
